Lol, what?

My family virtually *is* the Trotters, catchphrases included, but I wouldn't go out of my way to watch the series again and again and again and again...it's on all the damn time, and if not that it's Delboy in the Country (Darling Buds of May) or Delboy in a Moustache (Frost). :) Only Fools is a little too twee for me. I'd rather have Steptoe and Son; there was a sort of dismal poignancy to it, a fatalistic grimness which gave it real character. Blackadder, Fawlty Towers and Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads were better too, IMO. I guess I like my comedy with an undercurrent of bastards and misery. :)

Well said - and I love your choices of favourite comedies. I always feel that Steptoe & Son, when I watch it now, is very black at times - it's as much tragedy as comedy, the way Albert and Harold can't live with, but can't live without each other. You don't get that with The Life of Riley or My Family. :¬}

Btw I noticed from your userinfo (I looked because I was surprised somebody else watched Steptoe!) that you're a New Tricks fan...it's one of my favourite programmes at the moment (though I'm a couple of seasons behind). May I add you?
