The English dub can be fun to watch just to make fun of it, but if you seriously like it BETTER then the original I really don't understand. Liking it in addition to the original I could understand, but not better then.

The stories made a lot more sense in the original too because it got horribly cut up in the English dub.

And the voices? Sorry but the Japanese VAs actually knew how to act.

If you're talking about another dub then disregard what I said, but otherwise I'm sorry even from an objective standpoint the original is better.

even from an objective standpoint the original is better.

Preferring something often has little to do with its "objective" quality or lack thereof.

I still prefer horrible inaccurate 90's translations of video games, because I felt they had heart, and because they were outrageously butchered in the name of Americanization which means they nevertheless connected with me, an American kid.

with you on that last point. i even prefer name changes because at least they're easier to pronounce. that goes for anime too.

i'm not someone who grew up on the english sailor moon dub (so i haven't a clue how bad it was; never watched it) or those games or even someone who comes from an english-speaking country, but as someone interested in translations? i do think they're superior. take a recent example: the phoenix wright series

The name changes are easier to pronounce? Maybe for the outer senshi, but for the inners? Wow. Ami, Rei and Minako have basically the same names and Makoto isn't even that hard to say. .__.; Usagi is a little hard to say, but Serena is a decent translation of the intent of her name and is still a bit of pun.

i did mean in general. maybe i should have said foreign-sounding names? not SM related but damn, i would be happy if i never had to hear SASOOOOKAY ever again

I'm with you. I'll take a well-localized game with a questionable translation over a well-translated game that's boring and soulless in a heartbeat, even if the well-localized game changes stuff dramatically.

In nine times out of ten cases, it's just way more enjoyable, and I can always check out the word-for-word literal Japanese translation on my own.

I thought Phoenix Wright had clunky Americanization. I think it would have been ok to admit they were in Japan, considering how much Japanese culture and mysticism was injected into the series. I mean there's even a magatama you use. And remembers HAAAAMBURGERS

The reason I brought up an objective standpoint is precisely because I have my own bias, and despite seeing the dub first my bias is towards the original.

I tend to think this way in general, I understand we all have things we like that kind of suck but OP is talking about liking the stories, voice actors, etc better and my first reaction was a big "WHAT?" so I tried to think about it objectively because occasionally that helps me to understand what a person might see in it, but that obviously wasn't the case here.

Basically, the objectivity was for my own purposes to try to understand better.
