Huh. This is weird, considering I just posted a comment in another community about a character being "advanced" and how the only thing I can think about when someone uses that word is the scene where Zim gets Gir.

Anyway, I thought it was fandom's general opinion that the show died too young? I think it did too, but I also think it's a good thing it died when it did. JV didn't really seem to like that part of his fandom (especially after Nick got their paws on the second season), so who knows what we would have gotten out of possible spite.

JV doesn't seem to like any part of his fandom...! He always just takes the piss out of them and talks about how they miss the point of his work - often within that work (that side comic about fanmail, the Jimmy plotline, etc). Yeah, I think he was more pissy about the lack of control he had over it because of Nick.

His general douchebaggery actually prevents me from enjoying a lot of what he does.

I tend to like artists who enjoy their fanbase, not dicknozzles who pretend their work is OMGTOODEEP for me to possibly comprehend.

I can understand that (AH put me off Homestuck quite a bit because of that aspect), but JV never seemed like TOO much of an asshole to me. It's completely true that a ton of lame teenagers totally misinterpreted JTHM and took it as encouragement for being terrible whiny "lol murder is kewl" goths, when it was about the exact opposite, since Nny is basically shown to be a dangerous, egotistical, unjust loser - and even he manages to show more self-awareness about it than a lot of the fans back in the day. I don't think he thinks his work is ~soooo deeeeeep~, rather that the vocal fans are so shallow and stupid. I've never really seen him bigging himself up like Hussie does.

Then again, I've heard reports of him being aloof and stand-offish at cons, so I don't know. Although if confronted with a crowd of the very types of people I specifically mocked in my comic, all wanting my autograph, I think I might be the same...
