Which difficulty are you playing at, anon? I made my way through it on casual difficulty with some ease (ended up killing the hardest boss on the game in my first try, somehow). After finishing I re-started the game on normal, to try and hone my skill... and I'm so incredibly terrible it's not even funny. I keep dying at every turn.

Having not played it, I can't suggest anything for that game specifically, but:

- If you haven't already, turn the difficulty down. They put in different levels for a reason -- so players of different skill levels can all still have fun with it! No shame in going with what'll let you finish.

- Consider what exactly is giving you trouble! If it's just a case of not being sure where you're going or what you're doing or how to set up your equips and skills, GameFAQs should be able to give you a nudge in the right direction. If your problem is more with button-twitching and executing your actions, then...well, once you turn the difficulty down, you may just need to practice with it a bit. Going to an easier area or up against weaker enemies, playing around with the controllers and learning the timing, that kind of thing -- I have no idea how combat in DA2 is actually set up, so I can't really say anything more specific than that, but sometimes going to an easier area and just getting comfy with the controls does wonders.

- Level-grinding, if the game allows it. It's generally the last thing I like to do to get past a trouble spot, because it can be pretty tedious, and in some games it doesn't help much -- again, not sure if DA2 falls into this category or not. But if the system allows for it, gaining a few levels/getting some money to upgrade equipment/learning a new skill or two, whatever -- those can make a surprising difference.

Oh man, me too.
I have my girlfriend doing inventory for me.
SO. Have anyone who's good at video games mess with the settings for you to make your party take health potions automatically, etc., or set it to casual, be a warrior, and press x over and over.

A couple people have posted tactical tips over at [livejournal.com profile] dragon_age recently, that might help you out. And if you play on the PC, there's always cheats!

I can't remember exactly when, but recently in the [livejournal.com profile] dragon_age community, people have posted listings of tactics for various party members. :3 I'd go hunting for the links, but I'm at my boyfriend's house and the internet connection here is spotty at best... if no one else posts them, I'll try to find them either tonight or tomorrow.

Oh god -- are you me, OP?

I kept dying over and over and over during the fight at the end of Act II, until I just said 'screw this!' and got myself a trainer (which was all kinds of 'fun' to do several weeks ago, because the game had just come out the the only people to release functional trainers were the blowhards of CheatHappens; the less said about them, the better).

[identity profile] indigorosebud.livejournal.com 2011-04-06 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
What's your class op? I'm sure I could find some hints for you.

[identity profile] dethtoll.livejournal.com 2011-04-06 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Just practice, OP. Play different games of different sorts and keep playing until you develop some proficiency in something you enjoy. I've been gaming since I was 5 and I still struggle with some games, and some types of games. RTS games nearly universally beat me with a rubber hose until I curl into a fetal position and scream "I CAN CHANGE!" (that doesn't stop me from trying though) but I'm very good with FPS games of most sorts.

Obviously, play on the lowest difficulties, and especially in the case of RPGs (Western or Japanese, both have certain idiosyncrasies that have been popping up repeatedly for 20+ years) bring a guide with you whenever possible.

don't bother

video games are a waste of time

they're the province of the simple and the easily amused

and the rampant misogyny is disgusting too

(Anonymous) 2011-04-06 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
do you even go here

[identity profile] mondaisenshi.livejournal.com 2011-04-06 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
what is this I don't even. XD I think it depends on the games, anon. :P And I think TV and movies are much more notorious for this, as games at least are interactive and require brain activity.

(Anonymous) 2011-04-07 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
But YOU! You cannot capitalize or use periods!

Who's simple now, Frampton?!

(Anonymous) 2011-04-07 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
Oh please

[identity profile] mondaisenshi.livejournal.com 2011-04-06 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, if you want tips, give me character stats. Who's in your party, what skills do they have, what attributes are you putting points into?

This game is much more balanced than Origins was, class-wise, but I honestly CANNOT manage without a mage in my party. I have gone without warriors, but that was when I built my Rogue AS a warrior - she took the hits and took it like a man.

Basically, the best way to manage is this: Keep a varied party. You need someone to take damage, someone to do area of effect (usually the mage - fireball spells to hit 5 weak enemies at once, for example), and someone to do massive damage to one enemy at a time. But it also helps if they can multi-task. My tank (damage-absorbing character) also does area-of-effect to anyone surrounding them...

Really, though, if you give us a summary of your party, we can probably help you balance it out better with the next few levels. ♥

I cheated so hard through the first game. Just enable the console thing and have at it xD

[identity profile] llrael.livejournal.com 2011-04-07 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. I rogue'd my way through on normal right up until Stuff Got Real. By then I just wanted to finish the game and find out what happened, so I went down to Casual. Felt a bit like a cheat but it made the last hour much more fun. Next run, I'll spend more time working on tactics and stuff.

Oh, and I might actually remember to pick up Fenris. Derp derp.

(Anonymous) 2011-04-07 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Play more video games. Seriously, it helps.
