wait what how is dave homophobic and misogynistic

Uses slurs, exploits gayness for ~shock value (recall his pre-Hivebent chats with Tavros*) identifies with and glorifies a subculture whose misogyny and homophobia is built into its foundation

uh has Dave actually had any post-Hivebent chats with Tavros I'm not sure

I guess, but I don't think that literally makes him a misogynist and a homophobe. I'm pretty sure an actual homophobe wouldn't make quite so many references to HIMSELF suckin' cocks and all. And he doesn't behave asshole-ishly to Jade (in fact he's nicest towards her out of everyone, iirc), Rose, Terezi or any of the other girls he's talked with. Part of his character is that you're never sure what's him and what's just ~ironic interests~, and while I suppose he could definitely have absorbed the blatent misogyny/homophobia that is often bound up in what society considers 'cool', it just doesn't look that way to me. BUT, INTERPRETATIONS, OPINIONS, ETC

wait, what about being the nicest to jade? maybe right now, but roboslap is a thing that happened, and i can't think of a time where john has ever been mean to her! (and i ship jade/dave, so not getting all buttmad here, just curious why you think he doesn't act like an ass to her. he acts like an ass to everybody i think...)

Ha, that's kind of funny since I emphatically don't ship Jade/Dave, but I always got the impression that he was absolutely nicer/gentler with her than with anyone else. He's notably less vulgar, combative and defensive when he talks to her. Some of it's a little patronizing I think (I mean, how casually dishonest with her he was about Bro's death), but it's definitely a thing.
