from an outside perspective, as in someone who doesn't read the comic at all, this is exactly how i feel about it. from what i've been told, they're making this character trans "just because"? there's no canon reasoning behind it at all? fucking stupid.

i suppose you could go for a bit of a stretch and say that it's canon because of dave's mysterious facade that he's trying to put up and be ironic and hide what he's feeling inside all the time, but....

it's an ENORMOUS stretch and there's nothing else to base it off of?

i don't know, man... i'm even ftm and for some reason, i'm not thrilled. "this character hides things HE MUST BE SECRETLY TRANS" is so weirdly offensive to me? i mean, if he's supposed to be trans that's one thing, but to just randomly slap that label on a character? idk. i don't even get why it bothers me so much, it just grinds the hell out of my nerves. it's actually really surprising to me because i'm one of the least easily offended people i can think of.

No one's saying it's canon. That isn't what the secret is about. It's saying that someone's personal creation, just like humanizing trolls and trollifying the kids, helped them through a tough point.

Okay. It's understandable that it's not for everyone, but no one is claiming canon or anything. And when they do, that's a little out there, yeah.

But it's just an alternate viewpoint. And it's really offensive to say a ftm version of something is stupid just because you disagree with their views.
