As a writer myself, I think one of the most educational things (aside from practice and experience, of course) is noticing the flaws in other people's work and how it might have been done better. I find flawed work inspires me to write much more than masterpieces, because they show that there's more to be said than what's already out there.

I want to be positive and say 'what ever inspires you' but I really just want to stan for Atlantis. The characters were fun, the art was gorgeous, Kida was the first princess to actually rule her people, I just loved that movie. I know it had some problems they should have expanded on the journey to get there and all and hell if you were writing you might have seen it, it fixed it, and made it even better.

Also... I get inspired by crappy stuff a lot too. Well, or stuff that feel like it wasted a lot of potential. Masterpieces can be inspiring but often makes me go "yeah I shouldn't even bother, there's no way I could make something that beautiful in my life anyway."

I totally understand the wasted potential aspect.

I spend way too much time imagining how I would rewrite Merlin to make it make some fucking sense. Love the characters, wish the writing didn't turn them into morons.

But when it comes to the really good stuff, I don't want to fix it, I just want to expand on it. Maybe not something I would do if I were the original writer, but as a fan I just like to think of all the possibilities because I don't want it to end.
