Huh. I don't get how a pairing in Hetalia-verse can be terrible because it has no canon basis. I mean. You can kick out about 98% of all ships with this criterion.

PLUS. Horrible fics? "Strange fans"? Overrated? OOC? If you didn't put in the pic it could have been USUK, FrUK, RuCho... well, to make it short: I don't get why this should be a bad ship.

Exactly. I'd say that 40 years of the Cold War, space race and all that jazz constitutes as some historic basis, even if the US and the USSR were rivals at the time.

There's nothing wrong with this pairing, they're as legitimate as any other. If you relax about this, you might enjoy the fandom more (I don't know how much this actually bothers you though).

While we're here and this is sort of relevant, could we have a Russia/America rec thread? You know, just to see if most of the fics are terrible like the secret says.

So because you don't like the pairing and there's a few shitty things about it, you think all the shippers/etc are bad or just crappy?

I'd say it's got some cannon basis; at least for some sort of love-hate dynamic. Cold War, etc, and now they're actually getting along [START, etc] so I think it could count for at least some kind of acquaintance or even a friendship, if nothing else.

But you said you enjoy them anyway; simply because of the kinks? It feels like a slight contradiction, imo.

Pffft, I don't even really like RusAme and I can see that it does have canon credibility. Plus, their personalities work quite well together, being rivals and all...
Plus, since there is no canon pairings in Hetalia, any pairing can be shipped. Heck, I read a really good Russia/Liechtenstin fic. They haven't even met in canon (I think).

Maybe that's just me >.
