There are some movies when the average girl nabs the hot guy, but in many cases, the girl isn't "ugly" or even "average", rather she's just described that way or just needed a makeover montage.
However, there always seems to be a movie/tv show where the average/not-that-attractive guy gets with the hot chick who is supposed to be out of his league. There's even a trope (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/UglyGuyHotWife) for it, but examples off the top of my head include: Superbad, Knocked Up, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, King of Queens, Everybody Loves Raymond, Transformers
