Well, in one of the Animorphs books, instant maple and ginger oatmeal was like a drug to the invading alien species, the Yeerks. Basically, they would eat it while in their host bodies (called Controllers), and it would allow them to permanently stay alive without having to return to the Yeerk pool every three days for Kadrona rays (sort of like an artificial sun from their home planet). The downside was that it literally drove them insane; they ended up rambling and ranting and getting chucked into psychiatric wards, because while the host would get control of their body sometimes, that was only sporadic, and it really did make them look like psychopaths.

So yeah. Instant maple and ginger oatmeal. Best oatmeal ever.

Oh hell yes this happened in Animorphs? Do you know which book this is because, frankly, this sounds hilarious and that series is amazing fuck the haters.
