Is "hipster cred" desirable?

I guess it would be if one wanted to be or identified as a hipster.

Not as much 'hipster cred' as 'standards'. As trite as it sounds, I'm really self-conscious about groups and I don't ever feel like I belong to stuff, so I tend to keep within the safer boundries of a groups norms. And I actually like the intellectualism of 'histper culture' and once you cozy in with the people, you'll find a lot of really genuinely interesting and well-minded people beyond the douchebags. I don't like the idea of losing respect with people who see me as an intelligent and self-aware TV-watcher. Just like I don't admit that I have laughed at episodes of Family Guy, I wouldn't admit that I think Ghost Adventures is a somewhat endearing show.

tl;dr: I like looking intelligent to my friends and I don't want to lose that shit.

Intelligent people can and do like trashy, silly, and stupid things. If you go around censoring or denying what you like because you're worried about the appearance you're projecting, you're just a poseur, aren't you?

If your friends are going to judge you for liking braincandy, they're not great friends.

Family Guy is the definition of post-modern, we watched and discussed an episode in an honours Critical Theory class. I have a ridiculous fangirly love of Citizen Kane. You can intellectualise or trivialise any media.

Sorry? I do care about the way people percieve me. I like the image I have, it makes me feel important. It's shallow and I don't care.

My friends are all people I would trust with really personal subjects. I don't think they would seriously hold it against me, but I don't want to deal with backlash for liking a show about bros hunting ghosts in the dark. I guess that's not okay?

I know it's not honest or anything and i'm not showing my ~true colors~ but it's how I am. It's a sekrit cos I would feel uncomfortable changing an image I've worked hard to make. And yeah I guess that makes me a POSEUR. But yeah I also don't care so much, as long as I'm still passing off as a not-poseur.

Oh, this is great. Your image is actually more important to you than your interests or your intelligence -- which makes you a true hipster! Congratulations!

I swear we aren't the same OPs . . . but that is oddly coincidental that there were two secrets about GA two days in a row oO I guess the show gained some popularity recently

hahahaha yay more Ghost Adventures secrets! I don't ship any of them, but this weekend has been like Christmas on f!s for me. Although, I do sympathize, anon, because my enjoyment of that show is totally ironic. Why the hell would you want hipster cred, tho? You do know that everyone laughs at hipsters, right?

Yeah I know hipsters are the plague, but there are a lot of hipsters who aren't the smug douchebags that litter the group. Most of the time they're just nerds who found a way to channel themselves into a form of popularity. For some, it's just easier to be weird but trendy than just weird.

Besides, once you admit you're a hipster you become a not-hipster I think, so I'm a not-hipster? fuck idunno.

Is there even a fandom for Ghost Adventures does it have fic I want to read the fic if it isn't awful.

That makes me feel really excellent you don't even know. I have not discovered a fandom for Ghost Adventures except OCs and anime art on deviantart but that's not really my scene so I think I'll just hang back and sit with my secret fascination, letting myself think songs by Andrew Bird make good GA shipping songs.

Not only do we get 2 GA secrets 2 days in a row but we get new episodes too! I love it.

I am so not ashamed, embarrassed, or in denial about my love for this show and these guys. Everybody has a guilty pleasure even the hipsters the OP doesn't want to lose cred with. Don't worry about the GAC love and just have fun with it.
