As I understand it, LJ's been suffering from a lot of DDoS attacks lately that are overloading the site's bandwidth and causing all sorts of weird errors. I've been having problems getting comment threads, images, and journal themes to load, and for a while I wasn't getting comment notifications via email either. Usually a refresh or two of the page will clear up whatever weirdness is there, but sometimes you'll have to wait a little while. This post (http://synecdochic.dreamwidth.org/459929.html) goes into it more in-detail, if you're interested in the specifics.
