I don't have a dog in the fight regarding W/E. I freely admit my favorite character is Will, but my 'ship is not any of the above-mentioned, so any pairing anyone likes is OK by me - always has been. What I'm remembering are a small core of J/Eers who ran good, longtime fans out of the LJ fandom by being loud, obnoxious jerks about how what they liked was better than what everybody else liked.

I hate that... Why can't people ship and let ship?

I mean, I really like W/E, but I won't yell at you if you didn't... T_T

But, I'm also a hopeless romantic, so the things that Will did for her made me really happy... ^^;

The argument these fans used was that Will was an oppressive asshole who kept Elizabeth under his thumb and forced her into a subservient "female" role, whereas Jack would treat her better and allow her to be the model, modern feminist Disney intended her to be.

Yeah. I'll wait while your mind finishes rattling around, there. ;-)

Me, I like all the characters (even Beckett) because they all serve great literary purposes, and I enjoy a good story. But personally, I like Will the best. I wouldn't watch a movie just about W/E, but they each make different kinds of good foils for Jack. I will miss the trio aspect in OST.

And, I completely agree with your second statement. Sort of. I think that, if they did have Will and Elizabeth in their, they'd find a way to screw them over... ^^; [/not very optimistic]

Well, OST might be better because it gives Jack a potential female partner who is also the female lead in the movie, and relegates the secondary female - the mermaid - to the secondary male hero, Phillip. The problem with the first three movies is I think some viewers were confused by the fact the lead female didn't end up with the lead male, so they naturally 'shipped J/E. Formula exists for a reason, I guess - some people need it to tell them how a story should end. ;-)

I can't wait to see that! Hopefully (maybe) some of the crazier* J/E fans will back off...? (Honestly? I never thought that Jack was the "lead male" in the first one... I guess I was doing it wrong.) (^^);

That last part is trufax. Annoying trufax, but trufax nonetheless. -_-'

Exactly. As I said earlier, I'm only referring to the few loud jerks who insist their way is the right way, not all fans of J/E, or even most.

But, the new movie looks like it could be fun! *G*
