yeah, your last paragraph is exactly right - it all just feels like concern trolling, tbh. it's certainly not going to hurt anybody to believe somebody when they say they're trans, whereas it will hurt them if you doubt them. even if they do later turn out to be cis, it's not going to damage the ~integrity of the trans community~ or anything like that to just go along with what they tell you at the time.
