why this myth of 'hard wired'... it's acculturation and ignorance. ancient peoples made up stories to explain the things they didn't understand. to question their stories made them uncomfortable because they didn't understand things and that's a queasy feeling if you're not comfortable with 'i don't know' being a perfectly good answer. then years and years passed, with questioning being taboo because it upset people. so what started out in ignorance became acculturation. no biological imperative necessary.

there is a connection in that storytelling is at the heart of both fandom and faith because faith derived from ancient, entertaining tales.

i am an obsessed fan, but it's got nothing to do with faith or lack thereof. i like a good story just as much as the cave men did. but since i know what lightning is, i prefer telling it about strange aliens in weird little blue boxes.
