Speaking as someone who is "really" transgender, I don't mind at all if people who say they are trans are accepted without question. In my experience, very very few people claim this and turn out to be mistaken. Just being trans tends to generate a lot of introspection and self-examination, at least related to sex and gender.

So I don't know if you're trans or not, but, if you are:

* Don't speak for all trans people. Many of us don't feel like dissecting other people's identities to make sure they know the proper shibboleth to be trans

If you are not:

* Don't try to use trans people as tokens to justify your bullshit.

Given the majority of self-DXed AS people I know of legitimately have AS too, I am not sure what kind of backlash you are talking about. Perhaps an ableist backlash in which people on the internet think they have the expertise or information to properly interpret other people's lives enough to discount whether they really have what they say they have.

Concern trolling sucks. Don't concern troll.

Alright, lets simplify.

Gay marriage is a real life issue. People who are long term partners who are campaigning for rights to visit their husbands and wives in the hospital, to get the same benefits that any two 18 year olds with $20 and two friends can get in five minutes in a courthouse as long as "they ain't fags." Because of this, I feel if two people are together long term and say they're married, they're married, even if it's not legal.

15 year olds on FA posting that they are now ~*lifemates*~ with someone they met last week in a chatroom are not married, and to demand they be treated with the same respect and consideration as a non-straight couple who's been together for 50 years is insulting.

I do find it somewhat amusing though that people are getting their panties in a twist about someone going basically "They just posted "GenericFurry stuck his penis in a dog! What a sick fuck!" How horrible! Don't they know shi identifies as a female-herm and perfers shi and hir! That's transphobia!" Pick your battles, people!

Your example in your final paragraph has no relevance to any part of this thread. A "straw man." People are responding to the suggestion that it is okay to interrogate whether someone is really trans and whether it is really necessary to respect their gender and pronouns because they might turn out to not really be trans in some hypothetical future that actually fairly rarely comes to pass, if at all.

That reminds me of this post: http://furrydrama-2.livejournal.com/62646.html and the follow up: http://furrydrama-2.livejournal.com/102416.html

It was about a MtF that admitted to raping their sister when they were 13 and blamed it on testosterone poisoning (their sister was 7 at the time). Everyone just glossed over the incestuous rape and was all ZOMG PROPER PRONOUNS PLZ when people called the rapist "he".

I understand respecting a person's gender identity, but IMO the moment that person commits an unspeakable act against a child (or anyone for that matter) they forfeit their right to any kind of respect.
