I'm doing this right now. I still fanart and think up story ideas for my favorite less-liked pairing and character. My audience is small but I'm grateful for what I have. Quality over quantity, right?

The BNFs might have gotten the fame and the recs, but I have something much more important: a deep, undying love for my fandom. I'm still going to have fun writing my minor characters/pairings even when no one but me and maybe my bbs care any more.

(Not that some BNFs don't have that, too, but well, a lot of them tend to move on to greener pastures after a while)

That's the way to do it. I did this with alot of my fandoms and in the end when the BNF's are dead and gone, Im stilldrawing fanart for the characters I love, only drama, wank, and attack free.

Why are you framing your fandom enjoyment by comparing yourself to BNFs? They don't care and there's enough room in the fandom pond for everyone. This isn't a contest where someone has to come in first.

I like to imagine this being read like an angry villain who has been caught in an alternate dimension and slowly being sucked away, and shouting "Maybe not now, maybe not in a thousand years, maybe not in this life time, but I WILL be the last one standing when this is all over!
