I agree. The story itself is interesting enough but the writing is really mediocre.

I'm not trying to say that Collins is some kind of literary genius, but I sort of figured the mediocre writing was kind of the point. The story's the first-person, present-tense account of a teenager who hasn't had that much literary education (in part because I can't imagine the Capitol encourages it that much, and in part because she spends a good portion of her time hunting in the woods), who at the time of the story, is kind of preoccupied with staying alive. Having it not being awesome writing makes it that much more interesting/believable/what-have-you.

My problem was that it was way too over-hyped for me. And I don't mean from what I gleaned off the internet - I had several friends shove the books at me, gushing about how they're the best books in the whole world. :/

So when I finally read them, it was just kind of disappointing, you know? I don't hate them or anything and like I said, the story was interesting. It just didn't live up to what I'd expected.

Haha, yeah. It took me forever to actually read the books because all the hype was making me not want to read them. They just sat in my room for over a month.
