I kind of agree with your second comment. I like GerIta, but, I think it'd be cool if the plot took some kinda twist or something like that.

I think Prussia/Italy is quite sweet too. :3

Personally I really don't like the idea of conclusive pairings in Hetalia at all. I am of the belief that Austria/Hungary is canon, but even then it's written in such a way that it's still somewhat up to interpretation. I like seeing them as a happy couple but in an open relationship, so I don't feel like I have to close any doors on other options with those two. However, if two major characters like Germany and Italy were to hook up, that'd be kind of hard to be vague about the details on, and I like how the fandom is overall open to all kinds of options.

Besides, I get my romance fill in the fandom. I go to the canon for silly humor that is sometimes based on history and/or culture.

Aaw, I understand this too. I mean, I have my own personal favorites like anyone else, but diversity and openness about it all is generally fun too.
I actually never really thought of the "we don't REALLY know how Germany feels about Italy" thing until someone commented. I'm pretty sure he said "Ich liebe dich" [I love you] in the fandub, but...yeah, I'd never really considered it past that, and it actually kind of makes me happy to be more open-minded about it in general you know?
I guess just another reason I like hetalia. You can do just about anything.

Yeah, personally I take anything from the anime with a grain of salt re; how canon it is, and I consider the dub to be an unrelated AU (I LIKE FUNi's dub, but it is NOT in keeping with canon at all re; characterization, so)

But yeah, this series is pretty open-ended in general and personally I really like that.

Hm, yeah, I don't really like the dub, but was just mentioning. I think everyone should take it that way, there's no point in who-ships-who wars and whatever, cause when you narrow it down it's all pretty possible to do whatever. xD
