You know, unless your friend has proclaimed their novel "finished," it's still a work in progress. I get that it's probably annoying as hell if they're the type to constantly yammer about their novel and share it, and if that's the case I can totally sympathize - I have one or two friends like that and they get on my last damned nerve. But from a writer's standpoint, I can also tell you that the early versions of stories I've written were utter shite, and it would have been impossible for a friend to have looked at them and accurately make any judgment positive or negative, much less the sort of judgments you're making in your secret. Even professional agents, editors, and publishers are unable to spot a "success" every time. (If they were, they'd all be rich and the publishing industry wouldn't be in the panicked mess it's in right now.) Maybe I'm being too literal, but in light of that, you really just sound bitter, catty, and slightly butthurt.
