Also if this is the first draft it probably is going to be pretty lousy. Writing only gets better with practice and helpful feedback. (*ahem*) Heck, in the first draft of my own work in progress I randomly shifted from third person to first person POV without realizing it. It gets better when it's revised as long as your friend is willing to work with publishers.
If your friend really is super defensive about crit I'd like to tell her this : "I can understand that you really care about this idea but editors and reviewers (most reviewers anyway and you can usually pick out the trolls easily) are trying to help. Work with them and they will help you improve." I can understand her thinking about fandom and stuff because thinking positively can help motivate one to work on things when they're discouraged. Because face it there can be lot of discouragement out there for a hopeful writer.
When giving constructive crit always remember things like "It sucks" or "it isn't that great" tend to be the worst thing to say. Don't judge the work overall as "horrible" but don't just say what you think they want to hear either. Tell them what you think should be fixed and why or point them to someone who can.
