Fringe is perfect for me because it's episodic but it also has an arc and continuity. Most episodes can stand alone, but what happened in previous episodes still carries over. It has this in common with the shows the OP used, shows like X-Files and Babylon 5. That's the kind of show that's so hard to find these days. These days most shows seem to be primarily strictly episodic (nothing carries over) or strictly arc (episodes can not stand alone).
