2. What manga's that?

(Anonymous) 2007-06-07 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
From the art style it looks like Nymphet -- it caused a bit of a stir when Seven Seas licensed it (due to the fact that the main character is eight years old and putting the moves on her teacher), which caused them to drop the title.

8. Princess Sally is way past cool! :D She's intelligent, brave and a great leader, so what's not to love? I'm always sad when I see people hating on her, usually for a weird reason like "she interferes with Sonic/Amy omg!1".

Go you, secretposter! <3

[identity profile] crackjaw.livejournal.com 2007-06-07 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
1. I love Orihime. :(

11. I think you're misunderstanding the point of Internet slang.

[identity profile] crackjaw.livejournal.com 2007-06-07 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Forgot.

9. You're not the only one! And the art in it is so cute!

[identity profile] friendshipbeam.livejournal.com 2007-06-07 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
8. Sally Acorn is awesome incarnate. I was so hurt when the later comics turned her into a weeping wimp that gave ultimatums against her team going off to save the world. That was not her!
11. ...what's your problem?

[identity profile] valkyriur.livejournal.com 2007-06-07 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I seriously got physical sick when I heard about that. I had stopped reading the comics by then.

11 - wikipedia

(Anonymous) 2007-06-07 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
As the name implies, "freebase" is the base form of cocaine, as opposed to the salt form of cocaine hydrochloride. Whereas cocaine hydrochloride is extremely soluble in water, cocaine base is insoluble in water and is therefore not suitable for drinking, snorting or injecting. Cocaine hydrochloride is not well-suited for smoking because the temperature at which it vaporizes is very high, and close to the temperature at which it burns; however, freebase cocaine base vaporizes at a low temperature, which makes it suitable for inhalation.

Smoking freebase is preferred by many users because the cocaine is absorbed immediately into blood via the lungs, where it reaches the brain in about five seconds. The rush is much more intense than sniffing the same amount of cocaine nasally, but the effects do not last as long. The peak of the freebase rush is over almost as soon as the user exhales the vapor, but the high typically lasts 5–10 minutes afterwards. What makes freebase a particularly dangerous drug is that users typically don't wait that long for their next hit and will continue to smoke freebase until none is left. These effects are similar to those that can be achieved by injecting or "banging" cocaine hydrochloride, but without the risks associated with intravenous drug use (although there are other serious risks associated with smoking freebase).

Freebase cocaine is produced by first dissolving cocaine hydrochloride in water. Once dissolved in water, cocaine hydrochloride (Coc HCl) dissociates into protonated cocaine ion (CocH+) and chloride ion (Cl-). Any solids that remain in the solution are not cocaine (they are part of the cut) and are removed by filtering. A base, typically ammonia (NH3) in the case of traditional "freebase" or sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) in the case of crack freebase, is added to the solution. Using ammonia as an example, the following net chemical reaction takes place:

NH3 + CocH+ + Cl- → NH4Cl + Coc

As freebase cocaine (Coc) is insoluble in water, it precipitates and the solution becomes cloudy. To recover the freebase in the "traditional" manner, diethyl ether is added to the solution: Since freebase is highly soluble in ether, a vigorous shaking of the mixture results in the freebase being dissolved in the ether. As ether is practically insoluble in water, it can be siphoned off. The ether is then left to evaporate, leaving behind the nearly pure freebase. Alternatively, the freebase solution is simply evaporated until the freebase/cut solution "rocks up"—thereby producing the form commonly known as "crack" or "rock" cocaine.

Since the manufacture of "traditional" freebase involves the use of flammable solvents, it is a dangerous process, particularly since it is often carried out outside a controlled laboratory environment without sufficient safety precautions.

The "traditional" procedure is dangerous because of the hazards of handling diethyl ether: it is extremely flammable, its vapors are heavier than air and can "creep" from an open bottle, and in the presence of oxygen it can form peroxides which can spontaneously combust. It is due both to these dangers and to the relative complexity of the "traditional" ammonia/ether method that the simpler "crack" method with sodium bicarbonate became the norm.

Although freebase cocaine prepared with ammonia and ether is generally purer than freebase cocaine prepared with baking soda but no solvent, the cocaine fumes produced when the product is smoked are approximately equally pure, and the active ingredient ingested is exactly the same. Despite this, for many years "traditional" freebase smokers scorned "crack" freebase smokers—asserting incorrectly that these were fundamentally different drugs.

Deadpool, is that you?

1. A-freaking-men ♥ She's possibly my favorite character of all time.

[identity profile] valkyriur.livejournal.com 2007-06-07 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi, #8,

I feel for you. Sally is such a great character. I have characters that I admire and wanted to be like. I'm the same way with them. I try not to take it personally, as hard as it is.

Most people don't like her for the stupidest reasons too. If you don't like Sally, I think it's fine. But most people are like "I hate her because she interferes with [insert pairing]" or "I hate her because she's naked all the time". She's a furry. She doesn't need clothes. Geez.

[identity profile] ew-younerd.livejournal.com 2007-06-07 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
11. Wow, I hate those words too, but don't you think you need to calm down and not care so much about a term people use ?

1. I pretty much love every girl on Bleach, but yes, Orihime is quite the role model and a great example of empathy. I think people are put off of her because they don't like how she lets people be dickfaces to her sometimes, or her super forgiving ways come off as just passive and spineless. Not what I think, but I know a lot of people think that :O

5. The entire situation of rape varies in circumstances, though. There can be partial consent or eventual coercion that in the end was still rape. But uh, yeah, it's pretty much about, y'know, NON consent, and no the person won't start to lurveeee it in the middle of it.

[identity profile] shinysilvercoin.livejournal.com 2007-06-07 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
5. It is so annoying when characters get 'raped' only to end up enjoying it.

8. Sally was never my favourite character, but yes, she was awesome.

omg Tenkay. ♥

I totally have a fangirl crush on Cowboy.

1. Admittedly I didn't always find her so appealing, but after the Soul Society arc I just fell in love with Orihime ♥

11. Well, um, uh. To each his own.

Your secret is pretty.

1. Careful, people might go OMFG UR JUST INTO BOOBS AND HOUSEWIVES, cause Orihime is liek ttly antifeminist! /bashing of bashers.

Seriously, though, Orihime's a sweetie and the chapter with her brother's ghost made me cry. ;_; I &heart; her

6. I LOVED them as Michelle Tanner on Full House, they were so cute back then. T_T

10. I hate people who chase other people off boards/comms/etc just because they don't like their work.

11. Not touching this one.

♥ Orihime is literally one of three anime girls who I actually like. I hope she ends up happy.

8. I don't know much about satam and im a sega*sonic/sonamy fan... but dang, i could never hate her, her design is just so cute! XD

11. i must say, petty or not, ive been growing to dislike a good half of those words. I mean... I used em a lot when I was 14, and in that "random phase" but now they all seem cliched and boring, like i just grew outta it i guess.

11, 13

[identity profile] viorica.livejournal.com 2007-06-08 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
11. What's cheese mean in fandom? Same/similar thing as crack?
(looked it up but got so many definitions this could be 2 + 2 = 17)

I dunno if secret 11's exaggerating the same way the term crack does or if they're JUST THAT ANGRY.

13. ZOMG Biker Mice from Mars. Even when I was little I was all WTF at it. Bikers and mice and Mars. And then on pastel-coloured scooters.

[identity profile] kurachu.livejournal.com 2007-06-08 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
8. She just used to scare the shit outta me. o_o

13. I REMEMBER THAT CARTOON! What as it called again?

8. She just used to scare the shit outta me. o_o

What? How's that? >_>;

[identity profile] halevy.livejournal.com 2007-06-08 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
1. FUCKING YES. Plus hating on non-existent/fictional characters is dumb. Hime isn't a character who pulls giant swords out and hacks her enemies to pieces but she's strong in a different way, it's just at the moment, she's conflicted with what she wants to do, what she can do and what she can't do.

She wasn't my favorite character until the end of the SS Arc. She developed so much in the time between the first Arrancar arc until her departure for Hueco Mundo and you know what? That takes guts. Her friends were in danger and the fact she didn't hesitate to say no to Ulquiorra shows she's not as "OMG LAME" as people would think. Chad, Rukia, Ichigo and Ishida (OKAY I DON'T KNOW ABOUT HIM LOL) would have done the same.

[identity profile] halevy.livejournal.com 2007-06-08 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, lol, I don't find her perfect because she does have flaws but that's what makes me like her and other Bleach characters more.

9. 10K COMMOTION!!!!! I love that webcomic SO MUCH. :D Her art/colouring style's so unique - I adore the sketchiness.

I'm always so happy when she updates. :D

[identity profile] luisa-f.livejournal.com 2007-06-08 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
I love her, and it makes me so sad and embarrassed to see how she gets so much hatred from my side of fandom. That's one of the reasons why when it comes to Bleach I keep just to myself.

[identity profile] lostremnant.livejournal.com 2007-06-08 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
1. Orihime is a very very nice person and I would like to have her as a friend but she is not the perfect woman unless you believe that women should passively allow others to take advantage of them. She's gotten better at that I admit, has developed more of a spine and I expect that she will continue to grow as a character during the present arc. She certainly is a much more interesting character now than she was originally.

5. Uh...because it hasn't happened to them? What annoys me is the large amount of fics where someone female or male gets raped and then promptly falls in love with their rapist. From purely a writer's point of view that plot has been overdone so much that it has become a cliche.

11. Oh calm down. Using the word crack for rock cocaine is a slang term as well. Should we all get upset at you for using it?

12. When I first joined LJ I wanted a name associated with Final Fantasy VII but everything I thought of was already taken until I finally hit upon the one I have now. It's not the best but oh well. So no I don't find you pathetic in the least.

I agree, and yet I don't. I do miss when they were innocent, but at the same time I think that's what screwed them up: being marketed as circus animals. "See twins dance! See twins sing! See twins make 187 movies in which they keep their first names but aren't themselves! See twins never star in a movie without the other!"

... yeah, no wonder they became screwed up. So in conclusion: I wish that someone had, at least, stepped in and mentioned that they are human beings, not one person in two bodies. Drugs and drinkng is an effect of Hollywood Biz, yes, but it's also a result of losing one's identity. Yeah.
