I do hate how he gets made out to be a good guy a lot, though. I know he's on our side and all, but seriously, not a good person. (Though this may just be my Szayel bias talking.)

I mean...okay, I can't think of him as sexy myself, but Kurotsuchi's pretty funny in a horribly macabre high octane nightmare fuel way. YMMV, I know. Anyway, if all characters on the side of good were nice sensible sane people, especially in a series like Bleach with a HUGE cast, it'd get pretty dull.

Would I want to ever be in the same room with Kurotsuchi, though? Hell to the no.

As for your secret... I'm not sure why you feel so strongly about it. Lots of people are fans of villains. And comedic sociopathy is not uncommon in fiction. Sure, if you take the character seriously then he's pretty gross, but not everyone would especially given the way the series itself has portrayed him. He's fictional after all, the only relationship readers have with him is through the text. If people are fangirling him, it's probably because they're reading the text differently, not because they're endorsing/whitewashing the character's actions.

About the part in purple: I don't know why people find it inconceivable that someone writes about a character they (the author of the fic) personally dislike without bashing them or making them OOC. The attitude that you only write about characters you're a huuuge fan of drives me up the wall.

I believe it's all because of the scene that the top-left picture is from - the only time Mayuri is ever seen without his clown make-up, at the end of the Soul Society arc. Apparently that very brief scene is enough for people to decide he's sexy.

Yeah. He willingly wears that make-up. Even in the Maggot's Nest, he was covered in it. Literally the only instance in canon where he's not been wearing his make-up is when he's just returned to a human form after spending several days as green goop. To me that says that he considers the appearance he chooses for himself to be more "him" than his real appearance. If that makes any sense.

Sadly I don't think she will be able to. I think she literally can't even consider the possibility of abandoning Mayuri or even disobey his orders for any reason other than physical inability to carry them out.

People love villains and crazy characters. Mayuri is hardly the only character that gets away with this and has lots of fans.

Just look at Harry Potter fandom, the amount of Slytherin fans you find probably equals or maybe even surpasses that of Gryffindor fans.

I speak as someone who loves mischievously evil characters who are not morally black and white. It's more interesting to have a character you can't completely trust because it makes them more entertaining as a character to me. Not to mention every so often you might get a moment of of 'aww they really DO care' which means more coming from such characters than it does the 'good' guys.

He's the reason I was rooting for Aizen. The fact that the "good guys" allowed him to roam free and do what he did, much less have any authority, made me hate Soul Society. Bad guys can have all the twisted, sadistic freaks they want, but the good guys are supposed to be better than that.

If you're writing him as an evil, horrible creep, then it just might mean you're writing him well! And it appeals to the fans who like him as that character.

Is that easier to understand?

Also, Mayuri is funny, but in a completely horrific way that just might not appeal to everyone.
