I'm not so into Homestuck, but I really dig Gamzee's design, so when I do dip my toes in the fandom, I end up doodling him or looking at other people's doodles of him a lot!

Can't speak for everyone, but maybe just appreciating his goofy look and charming lopsided typing is part of the reason why he's so popular?
