Yes, friends can help. But this help is not a prize for your nice behaviour, it's something you deserve even if you spit in the soup you're cooking for your abusers. And I just think that in "Cinderella", the help is a prize for her submissive behaviour because back then, women were supposed to be submissive in these situations. At least, that's how things worked in my country, until some decades ago.

And really, I'm not judging anyone. If someone likes 'Cinderella', I couldn't care less. It's just I don't like it.

Well actually, by going to the ball in defiance of her stepmother and stepsisters, Cinderella was at once asserting her rights (all eligible women in the kingdom were invited) and rejecting the fate that her step-family had tried to force upon her. That's actually not all that submissive. It's not like she sat there in her tatters and meekly shined shoes and then the prince happened to drop by and fell in love with her anyway. Yes, she got magical help but that was just leveling the playing field. Cinderella charmed the prince herself and won his heart.
