I'm kind of curious as to the people OP claims have publically condemned the Academy. About the only person I can think of that's done anything nearly as rash as Aaron Sorkin, but that was about the WGA. So, OP, got any names (or links)?

The only person I can think of coming close to that is George C. Scott, who refused his Best Actor Oscar for Patton because he didn't like the idea of actors' performances being judged against each other. Otherwise, I think the OP is just a little delusional on that point.

Katharine Hepburn won 4 times and never went. Marlon Brando refused his Best Actor Oscar....there's probably more, but I haven't googled it. :\
