Yep, was gonna say exactly this. I totally get the appeal, although I wish Marcel got more love. He was willing to die for her, FFS! "Oui, Shosanna" always gets me. ;___;

Aw, I know ♥ Blame it on QT and falling in love with Daniel in Goodbye Lenin!, as that got the ball rolling on the whole thing. I love a good tragedy, especially when it has the full potential to have been a happily-ever-after, if not for certain circumstances, so I was entirely lost to them when I first saw IB. Having Quentin love it and encourage it was no help!

See, I love QT and all of his characters, but sometimes, he's too in love with it all to give everyone the kind of development they deserve, and I feel that way about Marcel. He wasn't given enough of anything to do, much like all of the other Basterds who went unnamed in the film. I've seen Jacky Ido's other work previously, and I don't think he's a strong enough actor, either, which didn't help. It reminds me of the Bride's groom in Kill Bill, in that we see him and see that they're happy together, but QT put the whole emotional investment and interest into Bill and the Bride.
