Whatever, her friends made the gown for her. Either way she still showed initiative in trying to go to the ball rather than just begging her step mom or waiting for magic. Sure, you could perhaps argue that befriending dozens of rodents and animals isn't an impressive feat or that she could have been more sneaky in her attempt or even that she could have directed her friends to a boutique rather than her sisters' rooms, but that's just splitting hairs.

(My bad, in my defense I haven't seen this movie in like 10 years)
