I'm glad to hear your mom and everyone else is doing well. <3 I love Sherlock Holmes and only recently discovered how great it was this past year, but there are few pieces of literature I've found that are more engaging than this timeless classic.

I sympathize. When my mom had her heart attack and bypass surgery, I had an omnibus copy of Lord of the Rings and I went through it time after time with colored pencils, marking the edges of the page for who was speaking when, just to keep my mind busy while waiting around hospitals or sitting up with her at night.

I think if I had to visit her in the hospital again, it would find its way into my bag -- just because I wouldn't feel right waiting there for news without it.

I LOVE THIS SECRET

and I totally hear you. There was about a year of my life (a horrifically depressed year) in which I always always carried Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas with me. Always. (and a bottle of alcohol. some booze was ALWAYS with me. When I went to school, to work, to the doctor. EVERYWHERE. it was a bad year.) It helped. I could open to a random page and no matter what scene I found, it was ALWAYS funny. no one seems to get it, but it really really helped. and on a veering-off-topic note, that was also the year I started experimenting with drugs, so always having that book around had a nicely grounding effect too.
