Well, that's not really a great reason for not watching the show, but you don't actually have to have any reason not to watch the show. "I'm not in the mood" or "It's just not grabbing my interest, glad you like it."

That said, it's really your loss. Not only is the show great but the fandom is insanely brilliant. It's got lively active coms and a kink meme bigger and considerably more active than the legendary Phoenix Wright kinkmeme. I don't blame your friends for squeeing like mad things.

I know you said that it's not the only reason, but John Watson and Arthur Dent are nothing alike? Why would you compare one to the other, especially when in both cases, we can probably blame the writers more than the actors for anything (mainly referring to HGttG.) If I refused to watch something because an actor had disappointed me in the past, I would never see anything...er...ever. ::shrugs::

Ah well, whatever works for you, OP. I really enjoyed Sherlock (I'm not going fandom-crazy over it, but I own the blu-ray now and read the occasional fanfic.) and believed HGttG could have been a far better movie than it was. I'd say give Sherlock a shot, and if it doesn't work for you, it doesn't work for you. Or hang out with less pushy people. One of the two. ;)

I slash them in my mind and someone needs to write fic, because I'm too lazy. Basically this happened while I was watching BBC Sherlock:

Anon - the movie is my least favorite version of the Guide, but I love Sherlock. I've also got apathy toward The Office going for me, and I still came away from Sherlock loving Martin Freeman.

So I guess what I'm saying is if this is one of the bigger reasons you've got for not watching, give it a try, OP. If you like Sherlock Holmes, or Stephen Moffat's/Mark Gatiss's other works, or mysteries, you'd probably like it.

And if not, whatever. Tell your friends to leave you alone. :P

Yup, this, I hate the movie version of Hitchhiker's (though I actually think Martin Freeman did quite a likeable version of Arthur, though he will never measure up to the TV/radio version) but I thought Sherlock was really good. Martin Freeman is a good actor.

(By the way OP, not everyone who likes Sherlock ships John/Sherlock. I don't ship them because I don't think they've had anywhere near enough time together to be even remotely romantic together, besides Sherlock is ace and John isn't.)

I hated the HGttG movie, he definietly wasn't my Arhur Dent, but then the only character in the movie I thought was done remotely well was Trillian, and perhaps Marvin. Freeman's not actually my Watson either, but I still enjoy Sherlock. Its a pretty good show. Incidently I have a feeling Martin Freeman will also dissapoint me as Bilbo...I only really liked him in The Office haha.
