Do you really believe that straight white males have the power in fandom? 'Cause it sure looks to me like they don't. Not saying you're entire point is wrong or right, I just think that in this area the 'minorities' are the majority.

Even if you were right...

We get one little section of the internet.

Fucking excellent. That makes up for everything else.

I fear you may have misunderstood what I was trying to say there. It's not about "making up" for anything. It's about a claim that radio_nurse made that it was impossible for non-straight, non-white, non-cis-gendered, non-male-assigned, non-neurotypical, non-Americans to oppress people in fandom because they don't have power. I was merely pointing out that that claim seems to me to be built on a false assumption, and as such the claim is inherently flawed, though not due to the conclusion drawn but merely the evidence used. An argument that is lacking in factual errors and faulty reasoning benefits the side that the person making the argument is on more than the other side, so pointing out logical flaws is in everyone's best interest, and glossing over them is in no one's.

Uh, I didn't mean to imply that straight white males have all the power in fandom. I meant to imply that we're all just users with little 100x100 pictures posting on a website. Unless there's a mod or lj admin who is abusing their power when it comes to these issues, and is say, screening comments and only letting through comments they agree with from groups they are part of, then it's not entirely correct to say oppression is happening in fandom discussions.

And it really depends what 'minorities' you're talking about. Because while women are the majority in lj fandom, I still think white people are a majority. Cis people are definitely a majority, and I'm pretty sure straight people are a majority too. So when it comes to just numbers of men and women you might have a bit of a point, but otherwise, not really.
