It's a bit hard to do, especially in DW fandom when you make a post because you wanna squee and 5 people jump on the thread and turn it into their soapbox. Then you're getting 12 million notifications about comments in which people are super butthurt because someone said they don't think a certain character is gay. And all you wanted to do was squee...

There's a difference between having a decent and civilized discussion about the things in life that literally marginalize other people and getting on a thread and trashing someone for 30+ comments because they said that they don't think fictional characters in spandex is problematic for real people.

I don't have a problem with SJ talk; I have a problem with people who use the guise of social justice to wank uncontrollably about every single tiny thing.

fandom is full of wank and drama. it used to be about shit like otherkin and furries, now it's about sj stuff. were you as dismissive and annoyed about the otherkin stuff as you are now about people talking about issues that affect and bother them?

Like I said, I don't have a problem with people talking about things in a civilized way; I've just found that "civilized" is rarely how one can describe some of the discussions that I've seen in fandom.

good god this is all about comment notifs? then turn them off. ignore the conversation. don't get involved. if it hurts your soul so much to talk to people about bigotry and tolerance, don't talk to people about it

srsly your squee is not that fucking important. you can squee all you want but don't whine and complain about those horrible evil mean people who want to talk about the more serious stuff, too.

It doesn't bother me that people wanna talk about the important stuff. It's all the fucking unnecessary and unhelpful wank that dilutes the important stuff that's fucking annoying. I'm the last person to say a social justice debate shouldn't happen. But there's a time, a place, and a civilized decent way to have those conversations. When you're being just as disrespectful as the person you're criticizing, you're not doing anyone any good.
