I think Harry was interested - he read his History book before he got to Hogwarts and I think took Hedwig's name from there. But Binns just makes everything boring, and when you have a gazillion homework to do and 5 tests this week, your curiosity ends up taking a backseat to OMG I FORGOT THAT I'M GETTING DETENTION D:

Hmm. I guess I had forgotten about him reading History of Magic and getting Hedwig's name from there. It's been so long since I've read the first four books. It IS a shame that the class couldn't have been made more interesting.

But I can say that I agree with Binns being a dull professor. A teacher can make it or break it for a lot of students and, unfortunately, can even make the most exciting subject terrible. Otherwise, I'd sooo be all over History of Magic. C:
