True, but arguing that Sasuke does not have PTSD is like arguing that Sasuke does not have black hair, unless you're either an ableist dickwad or have never read Naruto or taken a psychology course. *shrug*

Except that no one is this thread was specifically arguing about Susake. Only pointing out that 1. People are allowed to have differing opinions, and that, even if they don't agree with you, their opinions are valid. and 2. The creator is the only one who can say if the character really does have any given mental disorder, and have it be canon.

People are allowed to have differing opinions. I'm not denying that. My point is that in this specific circumstance, the differing opinion is erroneous.

As I said, I generally assume people who think Sasuke does not have PTSD don't know much about PTSD. Lack of education about a subject doesn't bother me. Willful ignorance is what's harmful, and yes, if you sit there and shove your fingers in your ears and go "LALALA, SASUKE'S A DICKFACE WHO DESERVES WHAT'S COMING TO HIM, HE'S NOT MENTALLY UNSTABLE HE'S JUST MEEEEAN", then you are very obviously demonstrating your refusal to understand the structure of PTSD. That in and of itself is a good indicator that you will do the same for any other kind of mental illness, making your opinion invalid because it is harmful.

The "you" I refer to in that paragraph is an objective "you", before you accuse me of accusing you of things you didn't do.

Everyone is wrong in this context because NONE OF US IS KISHIMOTO. We do not know his intent. None of us are refusing to understand PTSD, we are refusing the OPINION that Sasuke may have it. I mean holy shit, it's like you're whatever they call people who think they're reincarnations of anime characters, except your trying to give a fictional character a diagnosis that may or may not be canon. Until you know what Kishimoto wants for Sasuke, shut the fuck up, you're the not the authority on Naruto and you're basically telling people their opinion on Sasuke is wrong because it's not agreeing with you.

Rather than bother to educate yourself about PTSD, you scream at me for presenting something in the series as fact when it's, well, fact.

You are being willfully ignorant. If you had any knowledge about PTSD as an illness, we would not be having this conversation. PTSD is when someone experiences a traumatic event and does not bounce back--they continue to feel adverse negative effects for weeks, months, or even years after the event happens.

Kishimoto does not have to explicitly state that Sasuke is a guy for everyone to believe it, because he uses male pronouns and has a deep voice and no breasts. In other words, he pretty much fits the definition of a cisgendered male. Kishimoto also does not have to explicitly state that Sasuke has PTSD--which he wouldn't do even if he did because it's fucking Japan and they're really weird about mental illness--for Sasuke to exactly and explicitly fit the behavior and thought patterns of someone who has PTSD.

I'll say it again. PTSD is what happens when your entire family is murdered when you're seven and you're still hurting, obsessing, reliving, and wallowing in it and anything and everything you can possibly do to make it better, somehow (like...avenging your family's death, for instance?), at sixteen.

If you disagree, you do not have an accurate perception of PTSD as an illness.

This is not a matter of whether or not Sasuke is gay or likes kittens better than puppies. This is an analysis based on how human brains work when faced with trauma. Sorry you're so offended that I'm not inclined to treat an uninformed opinion as equal to psychological fact.
