Personally, I think they both suck but I hate the US version more because I think it is totally pointless to remake a series that is only a few years old.

The one thing I will say about remaking it, is considering the UK version pretty strictly sticks to 6 or 8 episodes... (sorry I can't recall and I am too lazy to look) a season, I liked seeing how the show was handled with the full 20+ episode season that Syfy gave it.

The characters were a lot more fleshed out then the UK version and it makes me all the more interested in seeing what Syfy does with the second season.

I prefer the US version because Mark Pellegrino is in it. Shows how shallow I am :/

I prefer the NA version, too, especially Josh over George. Why is this a secret? It's not as if the original is high art and the reboot is crap. Quality-wise they're pretty similar. There are also a number of sci-fi bloggers who think that where the NA version deviated from the original it was actually stronger.

It was weird. When the US version was copying the UK, it was decidely inferior. But when the US version went off on its own, it was better than the UK.

I thought the stuff that was lifted directly from the UK was objectively about the same, but subjectively better (because I prefer the US characters) but I get how ymmv. The opinion that the original content in the US version exceeded the source material is a pretty common, though, so OP shouldn't be afraid to state his/her preference out loud.

I only watched a little of the UK version, so I can't comment on it first hand (though many of my friends who have watched both say they like both, and preferred the US vampire child story better than the original), but I like the series a lot more than I thought I would. I originally only watched because of my huge crush on Mark Pellegrino and that Jeremy Carver was a writer on it, but I ended really loving the characters and story lines (except Nora's whose feels very helter skelter to me). I also ship Aidan/Bishop like burning, and want more fic than I know what to do with.

Yay I'm not alone on feeling that way about Nora. She was VERY weak imo. She's kind of a stuck up bitch one second, a genuinely concerned person the next, and then bitchy again. It's like only 40% of the time they can make her believeable and rational. I love the US version though and even thought I was alone in liking that. It has a fandom? =D

Mitchell is vastly superior to Aiden though.
