I don't think there's anything terribly wrong with the idea necessarily. In most cases, a person is always going to know what they need more immediately and more reliably than a second party, simply because they are in their own mind and they don't need to try communicating it to someone else, who then has to interpret it and try to replicate it, etc... Something is going to get lost in translation, and that's okay. Having an actual partner just brings something different to the table: probably a larger variety of experiences, the ability to interact (and be pleasantly surprised -- you can't surprise yourself), a certain level of emotion, etc. There are pro's to both methods, and I don't think the fact that you can technically derive pleasure more readily/flawlessly on your own makes partnered sex obsolete.
