patriarchy on the whole tends to present sex as men's pleasure first and foremost, and women's as secondary if at all (but usually women are not supposed to find sex pleasurable, or women's pleasure is never ever spoken about). hence that's where the privileged talk is coming from. it's not really about the individual's enjoyment so much as who is "supposed" to enjoy it

Actually, this is only the case since the Victorian era of "SEX BE EVULZ YO." Before that, women's pleasure was more important. During the 1600's, it was thought that the more fun a woman had in bed, the better her chances of getting pregnant were, so if a couple were trying to have a baby the guy would have to pay special attention to his lady, which would mean that they'd have to practice quite a lot so as to make sure she was happy lol. A lot of the crazy ideas about women and sex come directly from the middle 1800's, and weren't really prevalent before that *is trying to remember more from an essay on women's position in society she wrote 4 years ago and failing*

ohhhhhh I see. well then, I guess it's just the patriarchy of today that shows a bizarre obsession with the horizontal tango... and it doesn't show any sign of changing, unfortunately. all the lovely double standards still have to be dealt with (women don't masturbate, women shouldn't dress a certain way, women on BC/women who carry condoms are sluts, that sort of thing). men are just naturally entitled to it, but god forbid any woman express the same level of desire, you know?

of course that's just a lot of postulating on a "big picture." there are communities that still preach sex as being only good for baby making, but those aren't nearly as popular as the tired men-are-hornier-than-women trope

Forgive me for butting in, but I know a quasi-famous guy (won't say his name) who is very flirty, very comfortable in his sexuality and he is hated for it. He gets rape threats, his address got found out and gets a fuckload of creepers. I just find it interesting because unlike other straight men, he puts the objectification on himself and I think that's why he gets all this shit - he's basically in the "female" role.
