But I'm biased, because I'm not sure how the whole culture revolving around screaming shit like "OMG THE EVIL SPACE PENGUINS ARE TAKING OVER THE WORLD WITH SPORKS. LMAO ROFL CHEESE BUNNIES" is supposed to be... not obnoxious or immature.

I'd take that over the Zim/Dib shippers/LAWLIMADEMYOWNSPARKLYINVADERZZZZ people, TBH.

You will almost never see those aspects off the internet. The LOLmonkeyTACO stuff though? That does pop up in rl.

I really don't get how this stuff stays funny past 7th grade.
Of course, now that I'm in high school the stupid, repititive humor has changed from funny words to sex jokes. The conversation at most parties seems to be "LOL SEX LOL PENIS LOL VAGINA LOL". Congradulations, you passed 8th grade health, now shut up.

Oh good, another 40-year-old in a high schooler's body. When you're in high school, enjoy high school. When you're 40, enjoy being 40. There's no need to rush it.

Nah, I'd still look at them like they had two heads and no common sense.

Then again I've never been able to stand Invader Zim no matter how many times roommate from hell tried to get me to fall in love with that show. So that probably doesn't help matters much. I'm just not one for that type of humor.

That show was hilarious on the first viewing or two, in a room full of hyper people who feed off each others energy and laughter. But, well, how can lol monkey still be funny when you know it's coming? It's not right to look down on someone for enjoying some mindless random hilarity, but that kinda thing isn't worth defending either. It gets annoying fast if you're not in the right mood for it.

I wish I hadn't viewed Invader Zim again recently, it was better left in memory -_-

Random humor in itself is not bad. Gir could be funny because of his voice and his very manner and demeanor.

The issue arises when people, very annoying people mind you, decide that because he did it, it must be teh heigh of Mount Comedy to run out of Hot Topic screaming MONKEY CHEESE NINJA CATS LOLOLOLOLO"

The unfortunate issue is that these people are, in fact, scientifically speaking, utter fucking tools.

But really, this stuff was never funny. It will never be funny. Invader Zim had a few silly moments, but it got boring fast. Hyper, sugar induced idiocy isn't funny to anyone but the person experiencing it. You know why? Because they are too blitzed to actually notice how embarrassing they are.

Please, do take this more seriously, because it's a very important matter and you're very right to be tetchy and indignant over it.

I'm not a fan of this particular brand of humor. I would dare to say that I "grew out of it," because, well...I did. I enjoyed it as a young teenager, but now, in my early 20s, I find it to be rather annoying.

Good gods, though. Looking over some of these replies, I think you might as well have said, "I hate your dog and am going to kill it slowly and then eat it." I guess saying, "don't take things so seriously" really pisses off the people who like to take things seriously.

I feel like I'm the only one who a) didn't get upset because you were generalizing (because who the fuck cares, really? I don't know you, you don't know me, and it's a secret about senses of humor.) and b) shrugs and moves on with my life when I encounter someone with a sense of humor that I don't like (unless it's a cruel sense of humor that involves causing some sort of harm, which this is certainly not.

The ones reacting the most violently were likely the most annoying Zim fans a few years ago. They hate being reminded of their past silliness :P

The rest are perhaps explained by exposure to friends and roommates who just kept the randomness going too long. Otherwise the lolRandom! isn't too hard to avoid, and I don't think there are any new shows pushing the random Look-at-how-gross-this-food-is! humor quite so much.

I like(d) Invader Zim for its irreverent humor. Not its LOL RANDOM humor. I've always felt just "meh" about GIR's random outbursts, so I never really understood why everyone else shrieked with laughter over him.

The problem I have with this fandom, OP, is that there is a rather large sect of it that thinks they can act like GIR in real life, and it's still funny. It's not. In the show, it can be funny. In a fanfic, for example, it can still be funny (if the author isn't simply keyboard smashing it in).

If you think screeching random nonsense is hi-fucking-larious in a public place, you are not properly separating reality from fandom, and you have the social graces of a 4 year old. Don't get butthurt when people call you on it.
