I've thought about this too, because it's something that used to annoy me. But after reading FS for awhile I've realized that the times people don't add a SB the comments are all "And why is this a secret?!" and other kind of stupid comments.

So...maybe that.

I think it varies from secret to secret. Using today's set as an example, I can see why 14 and 26 are secrets; even though the tone of each secret is very different, they're both confessing a personal thing they may or may not feel they can share openly (or in the case of 26, just something they can't mention in polite company).

On the other hand, there's secrets like 25 are exactly what I mean, where it's an unpopular opinion they can't share because 'the fandom would kill me'.

But whatever. It's fandomsecrets, and in general, people are only going to care about secrets from fandoms they're in, or at least fandoms they love to hate. Maybe that IS a really big deal to people in that fandom.

I guess because I don't really consider myself 'in' any fandom, things like that are alien to me.

It does help clarify when the SB indicates that it's something they're keeping from a particular group or circle of friends. The rest of fandom may be fine with it, but they're still keeping it a secret.
