Just like any other place with lax moderation and a large number of high school aged kids, there's some stuff said that isn't okay by any stretch of the imagination. But generalizing that all 4chan is bad or racist because some people are assholes is bigotry like any other generalization about any other group of people. I've met lots of kind, smart, interesting people on 4chan and managed to make several close friends that I talk to outside of 4chan.

Even on /b/.

I wholeheartedly understand why most commenters here would hate the place, and I'm not judging any of you for that. You have to do what's right for yourself. I'm just saying, as someone who's there, who frequents a lot of the boards, it's not ALL horrible stuff, not even mostly horrible stuff, and pretending they ALL are full of horrible racist sexist serial killers is pretty narrow-minded.

Yes, I'm also one of those people. 4chan treats bigotry like it's their goddamn alma mater. Yeah, you can have some discussions and it can be funny but vast majority does go out of their way to be hurtful and bigoted and if a thread does turn that direction there is no getting out of it unless you actively participate in that atmosphere. I've seen way too many people apologize for their race and gender on 4chan, if they're naive enough to mention they're not white or male to begin with. It's fucking disgusting.

I don't think they're all racist and sexist and I doubt that the majority of them would have the stones to say what they type out loud to anyone. But they still type what they type, a lot of them do feel what they say, and it's gross, and you do have to put up with a lot of that shit to hang out there. MOST of 4chan is gross. If you want to put up with that fine, but I'm still sitting her baffled at you white knighting for the progressive attitude of 4chan. They'd probably be really annoyed with you for even saying that (but you're probably a girl and girls are too stupid to know better anyway lol)

I never said they were progressive and I don't think I'm whiteknighting them. I said *I* liked being there while disagreeing with some of the stuff, and that I don't like they was the lj social justice brigade somehow thinks it's okay to generalize with ALL X ARE Y as long as it's not a cause they support. I was angry that the reponse to my previous comment was basically "they are all racist assholes" which is blatantly false AND a pretty stereotyped, bigoted statement (which I thought people around here didn't support). I was pointing out that even in the deepest, darkest corners of the cesspool of the asshole of the internet, there are people who disagree with the racist, sexist front of the site and its content and are good people. If that came across as propping up every horrible thing they stand for, that's not how I meant it.

But apparently even that much of a defense of the internet hate machine that makes me racist, sexist, *-ist and whiteknighting.
