Go chase it down! There's pretty good odds of it being in a library (I've seen it around) and if you can't find it there, you shouldn't have much trouble finding it at your friendly neighborhood comic book shop. I'm not sure if I'm remembering the octopodes correctly, but I'm POSITIVE it has pirates.

Also, "Polly and the Pirates" by Ted Naifeh. Again, not sure about the octopodes, but it's a kickass cute little gothy story in pirateland, so you might like that too.
