No no, this is a valid point, because it points to the OP being a bit insecure about her looks, which sort of points to part of the OP wanting to be a shut-in being related to insecurity.

Also yeah, you don't hear many people wanting to be Quasimodo, but because Rapunzel is OHMAHGODS PWETTY people will forget how horrible this sort of life would be.

Of course, the thing about Rapunzel is, she was a total shut-in with horrible social skills, which is kinda what happens. You need to see and interact with people, or you forget how to be a person - just like exercising your muscles, you have to exercise these parts of your mind or they go weak. Honestly, a large majority of fannish types who sincerely believe they'll never fit in with 'normal' people most likely just haven't 'exercised' their social aspects enough to feel comfortable in these environments, and just like getting physically fit if you put a little effort and time into it, you'll get better at it and might surprise yourself by finding out you like it.

Right! Though, in Quasimodo's defense he was abused to his face compared to Gothel's "I'm secretly a bitch but I'll tell you I love you" business. Not saying Gothel's "I love you when you please me" way of doing things is better. Just easier to pretend nothing's wrong with her. In a weird way Quasi actually had a more realistic experience when you see how incredibly awkward he was with talking to people.

The whole last paragraph is pretty perfect, in my experience. But, in OP's defense there are a lot of people who just say screw it with everyone else and keep going with their shut in lives. Thing is, Rapunzel's not one of them. She wanted to know people and make friends. Stealing that experience from her does not make her life charmed in the slightest.
