and canon so far has never mentioned "his sense of pride"

Actually, England does brag a lot, like in that strip where he invented a way to hard boil an egg/make tap beer, or that episode where he cracked the Axis code and bragged about to the rest of the Allies, or that time he gave America marmite and proceeded to boast about how awesome he was for making it.

Nowhere near the level of Prussia or America, but yeah, England's a pretty prideful guy.

Yeah, forgot about the inventions, though I'd say that's more like ego than actual pride... I mean, the part where he was going around with a bunch of flowers trying to make friends and being utterly pathetic was not something that underscored his immense pride.

And when he got rejected, he brushed it off by saying that they're not important and he's better off alone anyway. It is very tsundere, but it does sound a bit like pride to me.

He acts like a complete tsundere, but there's no slinking away, just him saying that he likes being alone.

I mixed it up with another similar story - the one where Poland, Greece et al try to get rid of him. So he slinks away and comes back drunk off his ass.

In any case, even if he does have an ego and has an amount of pride, I think we can agree that being proud and unshakeable and whatnot is not exactly his usual modus operandi when dealing with America.
