People tend to hold back their opinions for either of these reasons:
- They're afraid that the author cannot take crit.
- They're afraid of being attacked by the author's fans and don't want the trouble.
- They don't want to post. That "Say something nice or say nothing at all" feeling. But something's got to give, which is one of the reasons why a comm like this exists. Usually it's away from the original author's eyes, and I do find it unfortunate someone linked you to this since you'd probably be happier off not having known. But yes, the trolls on your own personal LJ are extremely rude, and they just want to see you riled up.
Asking people who didn't like the other fics to read your new fic isn't helping much - it comes off as desperate and serves as reverse psychology. (aka, people will be less willing to read it.) I'm not suggesting stop posting at all or move it away off comms. Just post in your usual comms, "hey new chapter, thanks", and if you get readers then you get readers. No need to advertise. You have your returning fans, so keep in mind there are people who do like your stories. Don't stop enjoying what you do.
