Do you mean the "nice guys" or the nice guys, because (while Sarah and Jareth are being shipped), I thought that Christine/Raoul was the comic canon. Period. I mean, Erik still obsesses over her, but it's R/C, and R isn't in the comic enough that be termed a "nice guy" I don't thing. ^^'

While Christine/Raoul is the canon ship, I'm pretty sure the number of Erik/Christine shippers who read it is staggering. And yeah, there aren't really any "nice guys" in the comic, but there are "nice guys" in my life and the way Christine and Sarah deal with their creepers (mainly Erik, Jareth, and to some extent Edward Cullen) helps me deal with both RL creepers and "nice guys" (of which there is sometimes a good amount of overlap).
