(Anonymous) 2011-05-07 12:59 am (UTC)(link)But about Utena, I don't think it's a clear cut case of her being the worst of the duel victors. Anthy tried to behave in the way she thought the engaged wanted. With Saionji it was saying that she wanted to be his, putting up with physical abuse, acting as if she had no will of her own.
The way Utena behaved was a problem, but it was one where Utena realised her own mistake and left it behind. I don't agree that she made it all about her at the end: I think that by that point she had become a true heroine, rather than someone acting like a prince and shoehorning Anthy into what she believed her to be. Either way, it doesn't exactly seem like a good reason to have her stabbed with swords of hate for eternity. Anthy certainly didn't like it much.
