Systemic racism most definitely exists. I do, however, think that in a lot of ways it's tied up with classism.

(perhaps OT) Perhaps the main reason the conservative power structure is still in place in the USA is that the elites of society have convinced people of lower social classes that they shouldn't be fighting for more economic equality by using issues of race as a wedge. Look at the years after Reconstruction or Nixon's "southern strategy" in the 1970s.

Martin Luther King's famous march on Washington was a "march for equality and jobs", something that's been pretty well glossed over by establishment historians.

Oppression within and that aimed at the LGBT community is also tied up with classism. Just look at the gay people portrayed on TV - they are almost all from middle class backgrounds/are professionals, although this is changing on British TV a bit.
