Okay, I've only seen one full episode of Firefly, but... Castle is basically another freaking police procedural! We did not need another of those! Oh, yeah, I know, don't even say it, "but there's more to it than that, he makes the jokes, he's cute with his daughter, he has the sexual tension with Generic Lady Cop, blah blah blah I LIKE my shows formulaic."

I don't much care about Firefly, I don't much care about Wheedon, but I strongly take issue with the idea that Castle is objectively better than... much of anything, really.
