I agree that anon sounds jelly, but let's not cast aspersions on aspects we can't possibly know.

Anon, acknowledging one HAS a sex life isn't the same as bragging, and it's a bit telling about you that you would immediately think so. And frankly, considering how much fandom talk is sex talk about fictional characters, it stands to reason that it's as fun to talk about one's ACTUAL sex life as well. If you can understand why dirty talk is funny or fun in fandom, surely you can see why it would be fun to talk about one's sex life in general. Don't shame people just talking about what they enjoy.

I dunno why this is a secret. Sex acts and sexual memories turn on sexual people. Authors tend to write what they know.

I mean, if I was gonan write a character making a sandwich, I'd have him prepare it the way I make it... I'd be applying my own knowledge of sandwich preparation. How is hand+penis any different?

I know many people say "I get off to this and that, that doesn't mean I want to do it in real life", but why shouldn't it be the other way around for a change? I'm also like that. I write about things I do in bed, because - duh - it turns me on. If it wouldn't turn me on, I wouldn't do it in real life ;)

This is a cute secret and I'm glad it works for you. I always thought writing what you know would be the best thing, as so many others suggested. I wrote a sex scene about the BEST night of sex I ever had in my life in one of my fics. I explained it in great detail. It was a graphic. I had people telling me that what I was writing about was impossible. That it couldn't be done (no man can go all night) that the positions were ridiculous and also impossible. One person even told me to come back and write sex scenes when I lost my virginity. *snort*

Maybe I'm just a crappy writer. Perhaps mind blowing wicked crazy sex is hard to believe. My beta told me it got her hot reading. I'm still puzzled to this day. LOL!

Yeah, there's definitely a weird thing in fandom where people who have less experience read guides on writing good sex scenes and come to the conclusion that there are only certain ways to have sex, with everything else being wrong, impossible, or solely the domain of bad writing.

I often see certain acts I enjoy being confidently described as completely unrealistic and/or biologically impossible. For a bunch of people writing deviant pornography, fandom is strangely uptight about anything that goes against the established grain.

I think it's because, while it's not impossible, certain things are hard to believe just by the virtue that the majority of people can't do them - taking from anon's example above, like a man being able to last ALL night - certainly it can happen, but generally it's the stuff of bodice rippers. Your average guy gets tired or has trouble getting it up eventually - and there's nothing wrong with that. Anon above found a sexual superman, and that's good for her, aweomse, I'm glad she had some rockin' sex. But it's the exception for sure, a rarity, and it's so common in badly written porn that of course people are going to doubt it - the majority of men can't do that. When you have an experience that sounds like it's straight from the Letters to Penthouse, most of us with normal sex lives are going to raise our eyebrows. That doesn't mean it DOESN'T happen ever, but it's easy to see how someone could roll their eyes and crave something a little closer to what they've experienced.

I'm the anon with the sexual superman. It was a bodice ripper! LOL! But I am married now and now I have married sex. I was actually just writing about the BEST sex I ever had, not a normal sex life like I have now. LOL! I thought it would make for an exciting change of pace in my fic. I was wrong.

Um...he didn't actually go all night go all night...he took breaks in between. Thanks for making me laugh. I did learn my lesson and now I don't base my sex scenes on my previous escapades.
